The most popular way of travelling to an airport is by car. The reasoning behind this is very simple – the benefits of driving your car and parking at the airport far outweigh both the benefits of using other forms of transport and the problems of using the car. The main benefit is the fact that you are in complete control of your journey which is of innumerable benefit to people who are travelling on the day of the flight. The last thing that you want to be doing is getting yourself stuck in traffic when you are trying to get to the airport for your flight. This is the main problem with using a coach or a train – if there is a delay when you are stood at the platform or there is a cancellation, you are unable to do anything about it apart from watch as your flight and holiday plans go up in the air.

All the old stereotypes about the car parking systems at airports are now no longer the case – especially at Cardiff airport. The cost is not an issue any more. It is true that it used to be very expensive which has put many people off but now it couldn’t be better value for money. To park your car for a day it costs £20. A week holiday will cost you £140 in parking which may sound like a lot, but compare it to the amount that you will have to pay in trains, taxis and buses and you’ll realise that, in actual fact, you will be saving money. And in this age of recession, you want to be saving as much money as possible!

The last thing that you want when you are looking to go somewhere on a holiday is to be restricted by the flights that an airport offers. If your local airport is offering flights to only a select few destinations then you are going to have to either take a pick from this restricted range or travel further afield for a wider range. Of course, the latter option is such that it will result in you losing much more money through transportation to the airport than you should be spending. In England and Scotland, this isn’t a massive issue – you are never far from at least 3 airports that you can travel to relatively cheaply. However, the problem is quite acute in Wales where there isn’t an abundance of airports. The largest by far is Cardiff and it is incredibly fortunate that there are a large number of flights flying out of the airport to a wide array of destinations.

Many of the cheaper airlines fly from Cardiff to Europe’s largest cities in Spain, France and Italy. Whilst these flights may be later in the day or early in the morning, they are a cheap option from an airport that is one of the most accessible in Wales. There are other airlines such as BA that fly out from Cardiff too and, whilst they may cost slightly more, will fly at more sociable times. The main thing is, however, no matter where you want to go, Cardiff airport has a flight for you.
